Fixed List metadata is entered into fields where users choose from a prescribed set of options, different from a free text field type where the user is able to enter any value they wish. These fixed list type fields can appear as one of the following:
- Drop-down list (Select a single option from a list of options)
- Checkboxes (Select multiple options by ticking the boxes in a list of options)
- Radio buttons (Select a single option from a list of options)
- Category trees (Select multiple options from a hierarchical list of options)
These fixed option fields are very useful for standardising metadata by avoiding spelling mistakes or typing errors, but also for showing users how resources may be categorised and for suggesting terms they might find useful for searching.
All fixed list options are active by default. ResourceSpace administrators can choose to deactivate options.
